So what could a business selling metal buildings do on facebook? Well, SteelMaster does everything from offering advice on how to choose a building to playing games on their Facebook posts.

As I’m writing this hurricane season has just started. So SteelMaster put a page on their website about what their buildings have done for their customers in bad storms. The page was simple to create and focuses on a current event of the season. Then they made a post on their Facebook page and linked the message back to that page on their website. From there, who knows, the visitors may have looked at other pages on the SteelMaster website.

Another item they posted in May was a game where visitors were asked to find the difference between two, seemingly identical, photographs. And that photograph was of one of their metal buildings. People who saw the item in one photo that was missing in the other got their name put in a hat. Then they drew from those names for a $25 VISA gift card.

These are two neat ways SteelMaster has generated traffic to their Facebook page and their Website. And they had several other items posted in May. Most were short and sweet messages with links to more information back to their website. So you know they generated traffic.

Visit SteelMaster Buildings Facebook page today and see what is going on now.

When I set up this blog site a problem presented itself within days of my first posting. My AVG virus software posted a warning that it had “detected active threats on this page”. I went back and forth with my hosting service and we could not find items that we thought could be “threats”. I had just started the site, so I decided to remove it from the host and start over.

I began the site the second time with a generic page that was the default on the hosting service. I uploaded nothing. A few days later I tried to access the site and got the same warning. So I sent a support request to my hosting service and said, “you must have a problem on your end, everything that is on the web originated from your material”. But, they were unable to recreate the error. I gave the matter some thought and decided to try to contact AVG, my virus protection service.

An quicker and easier way to get service

Like so many large companies, AVG makes it a little hard to get in contact with an individual. So after spending over fifteen minutes on their site I decided to try to solve the problem on Facebook. I looked up AVG on Facebook and became a “fan” on their page. That allowed me to post a message to their wall. So in a short post I stated my problem. And then moved on to other things that I had to do.

Within a few hours I checked my iPhone and saw that there was a response to my post. A service rep had responded to my post. She gave me an email address and asked that I contact her. So I did. The next morning an email was waiting for me that explained there was an error at AVG and it had been taken care of. Later that day I went to a computer with AVG protection and pulled up this site. And there it was. No warnings, no problems and ready to start blogging.

How’s this for a coincidence?

Facebook helped me solve my problem. And here I have presented it as my first blog on my businessandfacebook.com blog site!
